Last week I forgot to give a Big Thank You to Milton and Cheri Schnare for helping out with office copying, stapling, cutting and assembling Welcome Packets for new residents. They also helped to fold a bunch of Activity Brochures for the Business Office Welcome Packets.

Another Big Thank You to Roy Darby, Char Leach, Shirley Smith, and Sue Walker for all their help cleaning up the pantry. It looks terrific and it is very organized.

A Huge Thank You goes out to Patty Ellison. Patty has agreed to be our Financial Watch Dog. We’ve come up with a process for Checks and Balances.   I do the initial paper work and keep track on income and expenditures on Quicken. I then balance the books using Quicken at the end of the month. Then Patty comes in after that is done and does a balancing of the books using our online Check Register and the Bank Statement. She also makes sure that I have a receipt for each expenditure and when all that is done, she files the receipts for us. We both just finished balancing the books from March through September and we are both glad that is done!! After all that is done and we know we are balanced correctly and that everything is accounted for, then I will run the reports for the Activity Board. We are really grateful that she signed on for the task.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Motor Home Magazine – If you get this magazine, take a look at it. Wilder Parks are in it and specifically Winter Ranch is mentioned with a picture of our Shuffleboard Court.

Welcome Packets – Welcome Packets are being distributed to those people already in the park so if you are here and don’t have them yet, stop in the office. As new residents arrive, they will be receiving their packets at check in. If you need a second sticker for your car, stop in the Business Office. Those that are full time residents or anyone that is now in the park that hasn’t picked up their Welcome Packets, please stop in the office to do so. There is a lot of information that you need to know.

Bank of America Scam – If you receive an e-mail from the Bank of America asking you to click on a link to them for any reason, do not do this. The ad looks good but if you hover over the e-mail address of the bank, you can tell that it is not coming from them. It is never a good idea to click on a link in an e-mail but especially not when it comes from a bank or credit card company. If they need to contact you about something suspicious on your account, they won’t do it by e-mail.

Church at Trophy Gardens – Starts on October 18th at 9 AM for those of you who would like to attend their service until ours begins.

Candy Donations – Cathy is looking for candy donations that will given to the Fire Department in Alamo to distribute to children. They so an event that keeps children from trick or treating and is probably well worth while. Bring your candy donations to the Business Office by October 28th.

Policy Book – There is a new Policy Book in the Welcome Packet. Please read this and familiarize yourself with it. Some policies have changed as all of the Wilder Park policies have been standardized across Wilder Parks. You can ignore the policy on mowing and tree trimming as it will remain the same. The book was finalized before we received word that mowing and tree trimming could remain the same.

Golf Carts now need to be registered so if you have not registered yours, please stop in the office to do so.

Business Office Hours – We will be open seven days a week starting this weekend. 8-5 Monday through Saturday and Sunday from Noon to 4 PM.

Activities Welcome Packet – If you are new to the resort in the 2015-2016 Season, please stop in the office to pick up your Activities Welcome Packet. It includes a lot of valuable information that we’ve put together for you. It also includes some free tickets to entice you to join in some of our activities. There is a price for the packet. We need your picture for the Blog so if you are a couple, you both need to stop in. We’ll take your picture and then hand you the packet. I can guarantee that it is worth it!

Facebook Group:   We have 242 Winter Ranchers who are members of the Winter Ranch Group on Facebook. When you are a part of this group, you will receive a notification from Facebook that someone has added to that page. Every time I update the Blog with new information, you will know that something new is out there. I will also use it to communicate any changes in schedules. So, if you are on Facebook but you are not on this group yet, contact me and I’ll send you an invitation to join the group.

Photo Directory – We will be doing another Photo Directory this season.  If you get your picture taken for the Directory, you get a free picture Directory.  If you want a Picture Directory and you don’t get your picture taken for it, then the cost is $10.  We will again be using Life Touch Studios. Mary Jane Jensen has graciously agreed to be our Photo Check-In Attendant for the month of November. Picture dates will be on November 9, 10 and 30th. More will be scheduled in December, January, February and two will be scheduled in March to finish it out. We’d love it if those of you who are here now would grab the earlier dates so we don’t have to add more at the end. We will be signing people up for pictures as soon as we get volunteers for the signups. The sheet is on the Bulletin Board.

Non-denominational Worship Services – Fellowship starts at 8:30 AM on November 1st with coffee and treats. The worship services with Pastor Frisby begins at 9 AM. This will be a communion Sunday.

Wendell Knight’s 85th Birthday: Wendell has invited everyone to his birthday party which will be on Sunday, November 8th from 2 to 4 PM in the Large Hall. He doesn’t want any cards or gifts. He just wants you to come and share the day with him. There will be coffee, iced tea, cake and ice cream. Also, David Lopez’s Blue Country Express will be playing for the event.   Since they need to know how many will be attending, there is a signup sheet on the bulletin board near the Mail Room.

Oktoberfest: We will be celebrating with an Oktoberfest this year on October 20th at Noon. This is a BYOB Oktoberfest!! We’ll start out with a meal and then we can enjoy JC & The Sound Machine. They are a DJ couple who will have a lot of music to entertain us with and they will keep you entertained. You can dance or listen. Trophy Gardens is invited to this event. The tickets are on sale for $5 in the Activity Office and must be purchased by October 15th tomorrow so we have a good head count.

Battle of the Sexes – Our first Roundup will be on October 27th at 3 PM. It will be a Game Show called the Battle of the Sexes. We’ll need volunteers for the game (5 to 10 women and 5 to 10 men). We need an even number of each to be fair. They’ll compete to see who knows more about the ways of the opposite sex. Anyone interested in being in the group (everything will be a group decision), stop in the office. Also, BYOB and an appetizer to share with your table.

Halloween Events: We will again be celebrating Halloween with our friends from Trophy Gardens. Your monthly calendar has a list of the events and times on it.

  • Pumpkin Dessert Contest: We are going to start out with a Pumpkin Dessert Contest. The categories will be: Pies, Cakes, Cookies or Bars, and Other. There will be prizes and certificates awarded to the winners. And, their desserts will be a part of the potluck lunch that will be served at 12:30 when the prizes will be awarded.
  • Golf Tournament: The Golf Tournament will start at 9 AM at the Winter Gardens Course. If you have questions on this, contact Vicki Miller. I know this has been a really fun event in the past and the golfing techniques are a bit different than usual!!
  • Scavenger Hunt: The Scavenger Hunt will start in the Large Hall at 10:30 AM. You’ll probably need a golf cart to enter since the items you’ll be searching for are located in both Winter Ranch and Trophy Gardens.
  • Potluck Lunch: We’ll have a potluck lunch at 12:30 in the Large Hall. Coffee and Iced Tea will be provided.   And, remember, we’ll have some desserts from the Pumpkin Contest. This will be a real potluck – bring what you want. If you’d like to bring something that looks scary or like Halloween food, all the better. Prizes for the Scavenger Hunt and the Pumpkin Dessert Contest will be awarded.
  • Bean Bag Baseball: The contest is on at 2:30 PM in the Large Hall. We’ll be fighting to keep the treasured Squash Trophy which is now on display in front of the Activity Office window. A signup sheet is on the Bulletin Board across from the Mail Room.
  • Golf Cart Parade: It will start at the front of the Large Hall at Winter Ranch at 6 PM. There will be a prize awarded for the best decorated Golf Cart. We are starting this at 6 PM because we can end the parade at Trophy Gardens where you can park your carts and attend the Costume Contest and Dance. SweetWater is playing. We didn’t think you’d want to dress up twice!!
  • SweetWater Dance and Costume Contest:   Trophy has a scheduled dance for Saturday night so we’re going to join them as the finale of the evening. There will be a prize or prizes for the best costume!

WIFI UPDATE:

The target date for installing the Wifi is November 1st. The underground fiber optics have been installed and have been checked. They are working. Wilder just signed a contract with Magic Valley so that they can attach the radios to their poles and the repeaters are here and should be installed shortly. The Wifi will be password protected. By that I mean, park residents will share the same password. If you are someone who streams a lot of video you may want to keep what you have until we see how things are working.

ACTIVITIES START UP:

Please let the office know as you start up activities so that we can announce them and post them on the blog.

These Activities have notified us that they are now in progress:

500 – Sundays at 6:30 PM in the Large Hall

Pinochle – Mondays at 6:30 PM in the Large Hall

Pitch – On Tuesdays at 6:30 in the Large Hall.

BUS TRIPS:

October 16th at 4:30 PM – Bus Trip to Riverside in Mission – THE BUS and the BOAT ARE FULL Riverside told us we could book another trip for two weeks from now if we have the interest so we will go ahead and do that.

At about 5ish you’ll have dinner (on your own) off the menu at Riverside. The tenderloins are terrific!  This will be followed by a Sunset Cruise on the Riverside Dreamer on the Rio Grand River.

Bus Trip Procedures and Etiquette – We have worked with the Activity Directors at Trophy Gardens and have come up with a list of procedures and etiquette. The Bus Trips Procedures and Etiquette are posted on the blog and on the Tours Board and near the Coffee Machine. In the past, we have had a lot of complaints about “no-shows” on the bus trips and we have come up with what we hope will be a solution to that problem.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

Autumn Brunch: We only have one person signed up to help prepare, serve and cleanup after the brunch on the 15th so we could use at least one or two more people. If you’d like to help, just stop in the office and let us know.  We now have a full team:   Thank you Jim Blawat, Milton an Cheri Schnare, Char Leach and Debbie McDaniels for volunteering.

Oktoberfest:  We just need two people to sign up for Servers/Helpers/Cleanup for the event on October 20th.  Helpers are needed at 10:00 AM.  We now have a full team:  Thank you Ron and Mary Jane Jensen, Jim Blawat, Richard and Marsha Bender.

Judges for the Pumpkin Dessert Contest are needed. If you are interested, please stop in the Activity Office. It’s a tough job but someone has to do it!!

Tour Director for the non-Wilder bus tours is needed. You could volunteer to do just our park or perhaps our park and Trophy Gardens. These are normally “Go With Jo” tours. You do receive a commission for tours. Just stop in the Business Office and talk to Cathy about it.

Assigning Times for Life Touch Portraits for the 2015-2016 Picture Directory: Volunteers are needed to schedule portrait sittings for the 2015-2016 Directory. We are trying to break up the work involved in getting this done. Last time we did it Shirley Snell did it all and it was a real chore. This time we are going to ask for a group of volunteers to do the registration for the portrait sittings. You can do one day or a group of days as we’ll be taking the registrations on Wednesdays after the meeting and sometimes on Mondays in the Small Hall. Signup sheets are on the Bulletin Board for the November sittings.

Portrait Signups: We will also need a person to sign in people as they arrive for their portraits. We have a plan to make this a much easier task also and we can use several people to do this instead of one person doing all the work. We have a person for December so far. We need a volunteer for November, January, February and March. The requirement for this position is that we need a person who prints really legibly.   We are going to try and reduce the amount of errors in the Directory and this will help. We’d like to have someone do the registrations in October, another in November and so on. There is a signup sheet in the Large Hall across from the Mail Room
