1st Responder Red Envelopes: Please use the new Red Envelope that is in your Welcome Packet. It has the current phone number for our ambulance service which has changed since last year. You also need to change to he Orange sticker on the back of your badge for the same reason.
Arnie Huether: Cathy reported that Arnie had a bit of a setback but he is now doing better, however, he is still hospitalized.
WiFi: Places in the park are working. Other places are sporadic. They are still working to determine where the dead spots are. If you are not getting it, stop in the Business Office and let Cathy know. She’ll give them your lot number. Drew will be here to answer any questions that you have at one of our upcoming meetings.
Christmas Stockings: Barb DeGaramo is the Coordinator for this event. She hopes that we can fill 300 stockings this year. We already have the stockings. The Christmas Stockings will be used at the Christmas Posada at ARISE for children ages 0 to 8 years old. The items that are needed for the stockings are:
Small Stuffed Animals

Activities Welcome Packet – If you are new to the resort in the 2015-2016 Season, please stop in the office to pick up your Activities Welcome Packet. It includes a lot of valuable information that we’ve put together for you. It also includes some free tickets to entice you to join in some of our activities. There is a price for the packet. We need your picture for the Blog so if you are a couple, you both need to stop in. We’ll take your picture and then hand you the packet. I can guarantee that it is worth it!
Nikki Rowe Tickets to the Musical “How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying”: If you are NOT on the bus and purchased tickets through us, please stop in the Activity Office and pick them up. Thanks.
Jams – The Jams will start on December 12th. It is coming up fast! I’ll be contacting the Jam Leaders shortly to get together and decide who wants what week and what the menus will be.
Thanksgiving Dinner: The tables have been selected and the money is now available in the office for the turkeys. The one thing that hasn’t happened is we need two volunteers from each table to make sure that the kitchen is clean and everything is put away and that the garbage in the hall and the kitchen has been taken out. We will have our truck parked by the hall so you can put your garbage there. Please don’t put liquids in the garbage – take them to the sink and then throw out the container. Otherwise, the truck will be a bigger mess than it is! The signup sheet for cleaning is right next to where you signed up for a table.
Roasters: Several of you borrowed roasters for Thanksgiving. Please be sure to have those back in the kitchen by Friday morning as we will need several of them for the Soup Dinner on Friday.
Roundup on December 1st from 3 to 5 PM will be by the Pool. Burgers, Potato Salad, Chips and Soda for $5. We have enough food for 80! Weather permitting, Elvis will be performing for us on the outside stage. We will be passing the hat for the performance.
Also on December 1st at 7 PM Razz Ma Tazz will be performing for us in the Large Hall. Tickets are $5. They can be purchased at the back of the hall today or in the Activity Office after that.
Christmas Decorating: The large hall will be closed from 9 to 4 on December 3rd and from 9 to 11:30 AM on December 4th to decorate. It takes a lot of work and hours to get this done for the Christmas season. Nora Minor is our Decorating Coordinator and I know she and some of her elves have been hard at work for several hours already. They could use some help to get the hall done. There will be a signup sheet on the bulletin boards near the Mail Room.
Christmas Lighting Contest: We will again be having a Christmas Lighting Contest. The Judging Week if from December 17th and the ballots will be due on December 22nd so that we can announce the winners at the Christmas Party.
Housekeeping: When we started the season we did a lot of cleanup in the loft, the kitchen, and the library to make the place look nice and neat. Lately, we have had to do more cleaning up because things are not put away when they are used. We really don’t have the time to run around cleaning up messes. Chairs need to be put back in this hall after they have been moved to play cards. The same goes for the library. Chairs, tables, fans, etc. need to be put back. In there people have started leaving coffee cups for someone to clean up. In the Small Hall people are leaving pop cans on top of the container for Pull Tabs. Let’s just pull the tabs and put them in the container and ditch the container. If we want a nice neat and clean resort, we all need to do a good job of picking up. We really need to better job of keeping the resort a neat and clean place for everybody. Unfortunately, guys, your mother doesn’t live here and although we love you all, we can’t keep up with 800 messy kids.
Walgreens Vaccinations have been cancelled again for the month of December due to lack of participation.
Rio Grand Regional Medical Hospital Blood Screenings have now been set up. They are scheduled for 7 AM on December 21st, January 11th, February 15th and March 21st. This will be done in the Library. The Lab Director, David Almquist, will be speaking to us all after the meeting on Wednesday, December 9th. He’ll also be providing donuts! He will return again on January 28th from 8 to 9 AM to talk to us about understanding our blood results. This will be in the large hall, kitchen side.
Singles Group – The Singles Group has now been organized. Marcy DeSchamps is the Coordinator. The group has come up with a name. They are the Giddy Up & Go Club. This is an informal group so all singles (anyone that is not married and not in a committed relationship are free to attend any of their events). Their first outing will be a bus trip to South Padre with lunch at Noon and a Dolphin and Eco Tour after. The singles from Trophy Gardens have been invited. The tour and lunch comes to $23. You can stop in the Activity Office to sign up for this event.
The McAllen Lighted Christmas Parade on December 5th at 3 PM. This is the largest lighted holiday parade in Texas. Last year was its first year and it has grown substantially. Last year it won a world-wide 1st place award for the best new parade in the world. We went for a tour of the facilities where they were building the floats and they are like what you would see at the Rose Bowl Parade. There will be lots of large balloons also. You can drive over and see the parade on your own. The bus will be otherwise occupied on another trip to the Lighted Boat Parade. If you do drive down, you can park at the Polar Express Shuttle parking area on the north side of Pecan between 29th and Ware Road . From there you can catch a shuttle that runs every 5 minutes from there to the back side of the Municipal Park. You can sit anywhere along the park route. We posted diagrams of where the parade goes in the hallway by the restrooms. I would suggest you take chairs and a jacket. There will be activities and food available in the park while you are waiting. After the parade is over you can catch the Polar Express back to the bus. There is also Posada in the park after the Parade.
Recycling: Wanda Wheeler has some storage bins by her shed on Lot 677. She takes newspaper, cans and plastic to the San Juan Recyling Center for us. You can drop them off and put them in the appropriate bins on her patio. Please clean and rinse the cans before you drop them off as she doesn’t want to attract any varmits. She and her neighbor take turns taking the recyling items to San Juan.
